NHL: San Jose Sharks forward Jonathan Dahlen will be a healthy scratch for Saturday’s game vs. Boston Bruins
SAN JOSE – Rookie Jonathan Dahlen was an important part of the Sharks’ lineup in the first half of the season, providing some badly needed scoring punch in the top-six forward group.Dahlen, who is fourth on the Sharks with 11 goals in 45 games, will be a healthy scratch for the second time in a week Saturday night as San Jose faces the Boston Bruins at SAP Center.
The Sharks are starved for offense, as they’ve scored just 23 goals in their last 10 games without defenseman Erik Karlsson. Dahlen has four points in that time, tied for sixth-most among all Sharks’ forwards, but Boughner has felt that he hasn’t been good enough in his own end.“In a perfect world, I’d like to get him back up in that top six and I’m sure he will,” Boughner said Saturday.
“There was some analytics and some advanced statistics that haven’t been that good for a long time,” Dahlen said before Thursday’s game. “I take that note and I will try to do those things way better.” “It’s an inner competition every night,” Boughner said. “Viel and Gadjovich are guys that are stepping it up in their own way. With back-to-back games, it’s probably a good thing. We’ll probably put back in and use our bench as much as possible and use our roster as much as possible.”No Sharks forward has been through more health issues over the last three months than Rudolfs Balcers, who will miss his second straight game Saturday with an upper-body injury.
