Since Kareem Hunt made his trade request and contract stand earlier this month by sitting out of team drills, he’s returned to full participation in camp and appears resigned to giving it his all for his hometown Browns again this season.
CLEVELAND, Ohio --
Despite the fact at least 10 NFL teams can use a lead back like Hunt, who run game coordinator Stump Mitchell said this week can be the best in the NFL with more patience, the Browns will hang onto him and use him again as a one-two punch with Nick Chubb. Chubb, who talked extensively with Hunt on the sidelines before he rejoined team drills on Aug. 8 after a two-day hold-in, put in his two cents for the Browns to keep Hunt beyond this year.
Hunt and Chubb have appeared together in the backfield some during camp, an indication they might do it more this season. Even if not, Hunt, who missed nine games last season with injuries and COVID-19, gives the Browns a second No. 1 back when he replaces Chubb.
