Caeleb Dressel at the start of the Men 200 LC Meter Freestyle race at the 2022 TYR Pro Swim Series San Antonio, at the Northside Swim Center on Thursday, March 31, 2022Seven-time Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky took care of business Thursday night at the TYR Pro Swim Series meet at the Northside Swim Center, but her victory in the 200-meter freestyle was merely the next step in a much bigger process.
Ledecky isn’t done competing at the meet, as she is entered in the 400 freestyle on Friday and the 100 freestyle on Saturday. Preliminary action gets under way at 9 a.m. both days, with the “A” and “B” finals are set for 6 p.m. starts. Finals in the 200 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 breaststroke are also scheduled for Friday and the 1,500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 200 backstroke will be Saturday as well.
“Training has been good,” said the 25-year-old Ledecky, who has won 15 world championship medals and holds the world record in the 400, 800 and 1,500 meter freestyle events. “The World Championship Trials are coming up in just a few weeks, so we’re in our last push towards those. I’ve got the Trials coming up and then hopefully the World Championships .”“It feels great to have a more normal atmosphere,” Ledecky said.
“I felt like I swam really well,” said the 25-year-old King, whose time was just 1.19 seconds off of her world record of 1:04.13, set in 2017. “I tied my in-season record tonight and this was the kind of swim I needed after not doing so well a couple of weeks ago.”
