, Selena opened up about the pressures she faced as a child star, and how that chapter of her life influenced her mental health growing up. “Working since I was 7, being away from my family, moving from Texas to [LA], experiencing fame, being confused by what that means, trying to grow up, being in such a weird position where people are actually caring and being awkward because you’re growing up — I think I was scared of it and I probably hated most of it,” Selena said.
Young stardom is a complex experience full of unique pressures that, ultimately, complicate the one big pressure we all endure: coming of age. For those who have been in the industry since they were children, crafting a career trajectory that aligns with one’s growth can be difficult without the right support system.
"It's so nice to be welcomed into the music industry and so great to be supportive of other women," Olivia spoke of Taylor. "She wrote me a letter a while ago, and she wrote something about how you make your own luck in the world, and how you treat other people always comes back to you."
