Ohio State will officially be without Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cameron Brown against Rutgers on Oct. 1.
His return was brief. After playing limited snaps in the rout of the Rockets, Smith-Njigba missed last week’s Big Ten opener against Wisconsin.
The Buckeyes appear to be exercising caution with Smith-Njigba, who was their leading receiver last fall and was expected to remain a focal point for one of the highest-scoring offenses in the nation.“I don’t think we want to move forward until we all feel really good about everything,” Day said. The reason behind Brown’s continued absence remains unclear. He has not appeared since leaving early against Toledo two weeks agoCornerback Denzel Burke will be available after he missed last week’s Big Ten opener against Wisconsin with a hand injury, as is safety Lathan Ransom. The secondary is not at full strength, though, as fellow corner Jordan Hancock remains sidelined and safety Cameron Martinez was added to the unavailability list.
Others who are unavailable include wide receiver Kamryn Babb, safety Jantzen Dunn, linebacker Teradja Mitchell and tight end Joe Royer.
