There were no reported book bans in school districts in Ohio during the 2022-23 school year, according to PEN America study. CLEVELAND, Ohio — More than 3,000 books were banned from school districts across the nation during the 2022-23 school year, but none of those bans occurred in Ohio.released Thursday by PEN America, a nonprofit group based in New York City that advocates for literature and free expression. Texas was second with 625 bans, while Missouri was third with 333.
The PEN study said books targeted for bans often are “young adult novels featuring female, queer, and/or nonbinary protagonists.” “As such, these efforts hamper not only students’ freedom to read but their access to the very stories designed to support their growth and development.”
