Of that money, roughly $305 million went to the state’s community colleges, and over $34 million went to the state’s two Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Cuyahoga Community College got $43,449,775 from the American Rescue Plan, according to statistics from the U.S. Department of Education. WASHINGTON, D. C. -- Ohio colleges and universities got nearly $1.2 billion over the past year in funding from the American Rescue Plan, at least half of which was used to provide direct financial relief to students so they could continue their education during the pandemic, the U.S. Department of Education announced on Monday.

U.S. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said the American Rescue Plan delivered $39.6 billion to the nation’s colleges and universities -- one of the largest educational investments the federal government has ever made. He said the funding helped students weather the economic uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic’s economic disruptions.

Cardona said the money allowed 93% of the colleges to provide emergency aid directly to students who were at risk of dropping out, and 88% used the money for COVID-19 tests, health screenings and to meet other public health needs.
