endure the struggle of waiting on the unknown in the visual for their latest single “Better Now,” premiering exclusively onThe song was inspired by a tense personal experience for the band, and the visual perfectly captures the intimacy of their confessional lyrics. The sparse production is complemented by a long rotating shot of bandmates Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West composing together and volleying lines off each other.
“We wrote ‘Better Now’ immediately after hearing the sad news of a family member’s struggle during the birth of their first baby,” the band tells. “There were complications that meant the parents were separated from their child for what seemed like a lifetime, not knowing what the outcome might be. We are so thrilled to say that their baby is now healthy, happy and completely beautiful.”
Fittingly, the song takes the fragile situation and weaves in notes of hope and promise that lift the tune to a heart-warming conclusion. The band also wisely strips away any narrative direction from the visual, allowing the honest and direct songwriting to stand on its own. The band adds, “‘Better Now’ reflects on the frustrating, confusing and desperate feelings of waiting for news of a loved one, and we hope that it brings hope or comfort to those that need it. We wanted to do a very stripped back and delicate performance to mirror how we wrote the song, before taking it into our home studio to produce it into the more full and hopeful version.”
