Officials ID woman killed after running onto Interstate 8 near Boulevard [Breaking]
County officials identified a woman who was killed last weekend when she ran onto Interstate 8 and was hit by oncoming traffic near the community of Boulevard.
Dawn Michelle McDermott, 46, of Kansas, was struck about 6 a.m. Saturday after she and her family were driving east on I-8 near McCain Valley Road, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said. The family was heading to Arizona — after visiting with relatives in San Diego — when McDermott began acting “irrational” in the car, authorities said. She attempted to exit the moving vehicle.Someone in the car called 911. The driver pulled over to let McDermott out of the car, the Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Dispatch then received a call about someone running into eastbound freeway lanes. A few minutes later, a driver reported striking an “unknown object,” officials said. McDermott’s body was found on the right side of the westbound lanes, the Medical Examiner’s Office said. She died before she could be taken to a hospital.
