Among the guest highlights for this year’s 13th Annual Gary International Black Film Festival at Indiana University Northwest this week, a star talent from the popular animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” steps into the spotlight this weekend.
The festival has a tradition of robust dialogue and discussion and this year brings a spectrum of roundtable and panel discussions, including panel discussions featuring Black animation professionals from the Cartoon Network in both film and television. That includes a chat with writer/director Charles Murray, whose work is seen on “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” working with the vocal talents of Samuel L. Jackson, the late Christopher Lee, Corey Burton and Kevin Michael Richardson.
Single film and shorts package tickets are $7 for adults or $5 for online streaming access. When asked to select my favorite “Old Hollywood” actor, my vote is for dashing swashbuckler Rudolph Valentino, especially given his “quickie marriage” connection to our Crown Point Courthouse. In 1923, registered under the name Rudolph Gugliema, he married his first bride, Winifred Shaughnessy, known to most by her stage name as actress Natacha Rambova.
