The case was filed more than six years ago, but wasn’t settled until last month when the 63-year-old woman was formally sentenced.
OAKLAND — A 63-year-old woman was sentenced to two years probation after pleading no contest to crashing her car in 2016 in a wreck that killed her husband, court records show.
Twyla Johnson, of Oakland, was sentenced to 98 days in jail — with full credit for time served — along with the two-year probation term. In February, she pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, a felony, and was formally sentenced in April. Police say that on Nov. 25, 2016, Johnson was driving in East Oakland with her husband, 61-year-old Donald Brooks, when their vehicle struck a PG&E pole on the 9600 block of Empire Road. She was identified as the driver, and a toxicology report showed her blood alcohol level was roughly twice the legal limit, according to court records.
Brooks died at a hospital the following day. Johnson was arrested and charged in 2017, and spent 49 days in custody before her release, according to court records.
