James Goodman, 36, was charged with murder in the shooting death of 33-year-old William Graham, and with assault for allegedly injuring one of Graham’s friends.
OAKLAND — On Monday, plainclothed police officers trailed a car containing a man they’d been trying to arrest since February on charges that he shot two men, one fatally, during an October 2022 incident that remains under investigation.
Now, Goodman has been charged with murder and assault with a firearm, along with three counts of illegal gun possession. He has not been charged with the alleged attempt to escape arrest, though police say an adult passenger and a 4-year-old girl, who wasn’t restrained properly in a seal belt, were both in the car at the time.
A 26-year-old man injured in the shooting was reportedly evasive when police arrived, first denying he knew Graham then admitting that they two had worked together and were acquainted. He either didn’t know or pretended not to know who shot them, and claimed they were caught in the crossfire, without elaboration, authorities say.
