Gordon had hoped to continue energizing the crowd while also using his background in economics to help the team, but he’s also understanding. Part of his disappointment stems from what he said he brought to the stadium: “good vibes, excitement and fun.”
Gordon has spent nearly 20 years working at major sports arenas, beginning in 2005 when he was a teen. His first job was at Wrigley Field in Chicago, where he sold hot dogs. He later became a hot dog vendor, serving Giants, Raiders, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Nationals fans. It wasn’t until 2016 that he ended up at the Oakland Coliseum working as a contract food vendor. A year later, he focused on selling hot dogs with flair.

Gordon, known as"Hal the Hot Dog Guy," said he was unable to sway the A's to keep him on board as a full-time economist when he completes his doctorate.During baseball games, Gordon had a penchant for pranking unsuspecting A’s fans with a fake ketchup bottle that squirted a long red cord.
