The signing of free-agent centre Peter Godber on Tuesday likely signals the end of Dan Clark's career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

“Dan is the last player that I played with,” said O’Day, who spent 12 seasons on the Riders’ offensive line before moving into football operations in 2011. “He is a Roughrider through and through and he’s everything you want from a player on the football field and from the toughness aspect.” Changes were due after the Riders surrendered a team-record 77 sacks in 2022. Getting younger at centre and improving at offensive tackle were issues that O’Day wanted to address. He focused on the tackle issue with the signing of national Philip Blake, who was a left tackle with the 2022 Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts.
