San Antonio bantamweight Ramon Cardenas takes on Michell Banquez in a 10-round non-title bout, part of a Premier Boxing Champions card at the Alamodome headlined by WBC featherweight champion Mark Magsayo of the Philippines defending his title against Rey Vargas of Mexico in a battle of unbeatens.The numbers don’t lie, but they’ve nonetheless become something of an issue for Ramon Cardenas.
“I’ve been in the shadows a little bit, yes,” Cardenas said. “But I’m fine with that. It doesn’t faze me. My time simply hasn’t come yet.” Banquez is riding a six-fight win streak himself with three of those victories coming over previously undefeated fighters.“I didn’t want any more easy fights just to pile up wins,” Cardenas said. “I wanted to make sure very fight now is competitive and significant, fights that bring out the best in me.
The list of trainers Cardenas has worked with since then includes noted cornerman Barry Hunter in Washington, D.C.
