Early last week in Los Angeles Bol held a private Pro Day, as reported by ESPN’s Jonathan Givony on Twitter, in order to demonstrate to teams and general managers around the league that the rehabilitation from his foot injury was proceeding well. Although heading in Bol had been expected to be selected somewhere between picks 14 and 22 , as draft night proceeded he began slipping. He first fell out of his projected range, but then – in what became one of the most compelling subplots of draft night – kept sliding until he surprisingly slipped all the way out of the first round.
“When you get a guy with the tools like Bol Bol, it's hard not to get aggressive, hard not to get excited,” Connelly imparted at Denver’s post-draft press conference. “We feel very fortunate that he fell. He was a guy we had circled much higher on the board.” through his tenure helming Denver’s front office, and importantly that the Kroenke ownership group and head coach Michael Malone are all unified in sharing the same team-building vision.
