Motorists were issued tickets or given guidance about improving their standard of driving
After public concern over speeding motorists in Old Basford, a neighbourhood policing team carried out an anti-speeding operation. The day of action took place on Wednesday, July 12, and involved officers setting up high visibility checkpoints and taking out a speed gun to deter speeding.
These checkpoints were on Heathfield Road and Barlock Road, which are both areas in Old Basford where speeding offences have been reported before. A number of speeding drivers found to be going over the limit were pulled over by Nottinghamshire Police's city west team. The motorists were then issued tickets or given guidance about improving their standard of driving at the roadside, depending on how fast they were going. Whilst in the area, officers also spoke to members of the public and later hosted a stand during a community engagement event at Vernon Park where people could talk to them about crime in the area.
“The public have told us they want us to tackle speeding and highlighted Heathfield Road and Barlock Road as areas of concern, which is precisely why we visited these roads for this operation. As part of the day, we went out with the speed gun and set up high-visibility checkpoints at these locations, in a bid to deter future speeding by pulling people over who were going too fast and providing that visible presence on the streets.
“Our main purpose for carrying out these operations isn’t to persecute people as they’re going about their daily business or to ruin their day, it’s to make the roads safer so that people can go about their day and enjoy it, without worrying about speeding motorists.”
