Mahaliah has performed for stars such as Ed Sheeran, Adele and Alicia Keys
After being gifted a violin for her seventh birthday, a Nottingham musician has gone on to achieve great success in the industry. Now she has shared what’s next for her and how she wants to ‘be the change’ for other aspiring musicians. Born and raised in The Meadows and West Bridgford, Mahaliah Edwards has performed as part of an orchestra for stars including Alicia Keys, Ed Sheeran and more.
“In secondary school, I got involved with the concert band and then the Nottingham Youth Orchestra.” Mahaliah attended Rushcliffe Secondary School.She was then encouraged to audition for the Purcell School in Hertfordshire, a specialist music school for children aged 11 to 18. Mahaliah said: “That’s how I got into music as a career, I never thought I could do it before.
“I think this year the biggest thing has been recording a record with Alicia Keys with an orchestra, all women of colour. that was really cool - for Bridgerton on Netflix. I’ve also appeared on the One Show performing with Rita Ora and last year did Strictly Come Dancing with Robbie Williams and I did the backing strings for Adele’s British summertime performance at Hyde Park - there’s been so much, it’s surreal.
