Notre Dame Prep beat Desert Mountain, 20-17 in three overtimes, on Friday night.
While Notre Dame Prep entered Friday ranked as The Republic’s No. 2 team in 5A, it was undefeated Desert Mountain that carried the buzz into their meeting.
Then, finally, in the third overtime, senior defensive back Trevor Auerbach provided the difference. Desert Mountain quarterback Drew Tapley targeted Dillon Hipp on a fade in the back corner of the end zone, but Auerbach undercut it, providing the interception that set up Liborio’s game-winning field goal.
“It shortens the field any time a team's in there,” Prelock said. “And it is tough to score. And our defense just knew their assignments and they executed well. So great job to them.”Huge day for Freeburg
