Comedian Jay Leno said he has to joke about his recent burn injuries, dismissing any need to bask in self-pity.
“Really, it was an accident, that’s all,” Leno shared with the Wall Street Journal. “Anybody who works with their hands on a regular basis is going to have an accident at some point. If you play football, you get a concussion or a broken leg. Anything you do, there’s a risk factor.”Leno, 72, sustained burn injuries in November following a car fire that began while he was working underneath one of his vehicles.“You have to joke about it,” the comedian added.
On Nov. 27, Leno arrived at the Comedy and Magic Club in Hermosa Beach to perform for the first time since his accident. He joked that he had two shows that night: “Regular and extra crispy.”“I got burned. I was in the hospital for a few days, and now I’m back out working again,” Leno said, downplaying his return with a laugh. “People do this every day.”
