A murder investigation has been opened

The University of Northampton has said it is "deeply saddened" by the fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old man near its Riverside Campus last night, April 23. Northamptonshire Police confirmed this afternoon, April 24, that the teenager was stabbed on New South Bridge Road in Northampton at around 8.40pm.

The university, whose South Bridge Road entrance remains closed due to a police cordon, said in a statement: “Our community is deeply saddened by this news, and we will be doing all we can to support staff and students while assisting police with their enquiries over the coming days.” Students at UoN are on their Easter holidays. It is not known whether the deceased teenager was connected to the university.

Four people, two men aged 19, one man aged 18, and an 18-year-old woman, have been arrested in connection with the death. They are being questioned today.
