Nigeria's former VP Atiku Abubakar rolls up his sleeves to run for presidential elections in 2023 after he won most of the opposition votes in primaries

The People's Democratic Party party, which ruled Nigeria after military rule ended in 1999, was ousted from power by Buhari's All Progressives Congress party in 2015. The PDP is vying for a return to governing Africa's biggest economy. "I, therefore, pledge that I will restore unity. I also committed that I was going to deal decisively with the security situation in this country," said Abubakar.Abubakar has stood in six primaries, and next year's vote will be his third presidential bid.

VP Harris Expected at Last Buffalo Shooting Victim's FuneralThe last of the victims of a gunman’s racist attack on a Buffalo supermarket will be laid to rest Saturday. At 86, Ruth Whitfield was the oldest of the 10 people killed. Civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton is expected to deliver her eulogy at a service attended by Vice President Kamala Harris. Whitfield was inside the Tops Friendly Market after visiting her husband of 68 years in a nursing home when an 18-year-old gunman opened fire May 14. He is charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bail.
