Cook, also from Edmonton, was arrested in Fort Saskatchewan in July 2019. She was the fifth person to be charged in connection with Laverdiere’s death. A publication ban, sought by the Crown, prevents the reporting of all the evidence presented, and arguments made, during the trials and sentencing hearings until the final accused, Jesse Sangster, either stands trial or is sentenced.
Sangster’s trial was scheduled to begin this week but has been sent back to the pretrial list. Browne said Sangster fired his lawyer and the trial had to be adjourned while he secures new counsel., being an accessory after the fact to murder and vehicle theft.
