The president of Newark's Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 12, the officers' union, said he was concerned that the officers were suspended before the investigation was complete.
“An investigation by the Newark Police Division’s Office of Professional Standards was immediately launched,” Fragé stated. “Pending the outcome of the investigation, the two police officers have been suspended indefinitely and without pay. No further information is available.”

Jeffrey Weber, president of the Newark Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 12, the officers’ union, withheld judgment pending the outcome of the investigation on whether the officers were sleeping on the job.
“It appears that they’re sleeping,” Weber said. “I’m not saying they were. I’m not saying they weren’t. But they were suspended prior to an investigation. I have a problem with that.”
