A shake-up in Houston's hospitality industry seeks to bolster advocacy for local hotels,...

The Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau, a nonprofit representing Houston’s hospitality sector, has spun off from, the city’s convention and tourism agency, to focus on advancing the interests of its more than 800 members. “We really recognized that our first and foremost responsibility was to become the voice for the hospitality and tourism community from an advocacy standpoint,” Martin said. “And the previous sort of partnership with Houston first didn't quite allow for that.” “We want to make sure we have those kinds of relationships, and we can help shape and have influence on that policy to make sure we are not only protecting our workers, protecting our guests, but also being good stewards and being thoughtful about the long-term impact of these policies,” Martin said.
