The new restaurant takes over from Bistro Marc which closed in June
A new pizza spot offering wood-fired pizzas and Italian-inspired small plates will be opening in Stockport town centre this autumn. Alfredo's Social will launch in the iconic Winter's building, on Little Underbank in Stockport's Old Town.
Prior to being taken over in 2022, the Winter's building laid empty for some years, but with support from Stockport Council, the National Lottery’s heritage fund, and Cumbria Clock Company it was reclaimed - and even the space's famous clock with its figures of a soldier, a sailor and old father time, was restored. The shop was first opened as a jewellers in 1890 by Jacob Winter, and was one of the first places in the town to have electricity.
At the heart of Alfredo's Social, which is the nickname of one of the owners' children, will be Neapolitan-style pizzas cooked in a Marra Forni pizza oven imported from Italy, which uses half gas and half wood from local woodlands to create a smokey feel. While the launch menus are still yet to be revealed, the pizzas will use flour from local farms and milled in Stockport, and will make use of local produce - including some ingredients from Keegan's own allotment.
Keegan says they're excited to be opening at a time of great change in Stockport, and playing their role in the Underbanks transformation. "There's a lot of new openings down on the Underbanks so we're really excited to be a part of it.
