Could the rakish ID5 crossover coupe and the three-row ID6 work in America?
. It's possible the U.S. patent filings of these foreign-market models are just legal protection of company assets on VW's part, and there are no active plans to bring them stateside. For example, the most recent VW Polo hatchback was filed with the U.S. patent office as well, even though it's not sold here , and isn't likely to be sold here considering the lack of a booming hatchback market.
We haven't heard any news or rumor either way beyond these patents, for what it's worth, beyond that VW has said it will produce a three-row ID8 EV SUV—which may or may not come to the U.S., and may or may not share styling cues with the ID6. The automaker does potentially have enough capacity at its current Tennessee facilities which manufacture batteries and assemble the ID4 to expand with more MEB vehicle platform based models.
