Mike Miles' own teaching certification in Texas hasn't been active in five years, and he doesn't plan on reactivating it. But does it matter? Here's what ABC13 learned can be done instead.
The lack of certification is making the rounds with HISD and the Texas education community. ABC13 spoke on Monday with the executive director of the Association of Texas Professional Educators, who says their concern is not Miles' qualifications. They have other issues.
Miles is no doubt qualified. He graduated from West Point in 1978 and has additional degrees from The University of California at Berkeley and Columbia University. Before entering education, he worked in the U.S. Department of State. "It's just kind of hypocritical that you come in and talk about how you want to improve things," Jackie Anderson said. "And you want the best, and you want this, and you don't even take the time to make sure your certification is up to date."
