Today we’re sharing an excerpt from Lifeway Women’s new study, Lois and Eunice, Timothy’s mother and grandmother, are described in 2 Timothy 1:5. These two women were known for a faith that was genuine, true, authentic. Most English translations use the wordFaith is not just the affirmation of a set of beliefs; it’s something that lives in us. When faith in Jesus Christ takes up residence in our souls, it transforms every part of our being, every aspect of our lives.
You may not have benefitted from growing up with a grandmother or mother who cultivated faith in you. But you can become the sort of woman who nurtures faith in others. Our children, nieces, nephews, friends, students, and the children in our churches need to see the sincere faith that lives in us. They need to hear us talk about what we’re learning from the Lord, how Scripture is challenging us and changing us, and how the Holy Spirit is working in us to conform us to the image of Christ.
Lois and Eunice were Jewish women who believed that Jesus was the fulfillment of God’s promises to their ancestors Abraham and Sarah. In Genesis 18:19 we read that God said, “I have chosen [Abraham] so that he will command his children and his house after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just.
