Clear Creek ISD's new superintendent, Karen Engle, said she plans to focus on promoting core values such as respect, responsibility and the basics of education.Karen Engle, who was named Clear Creek ISD's new superintendent on Monday, has a long history with the district that includes being assistant superintendent of secondary education and a Clear Lake High School graduate.
Williams left the school system abruptly in July due to a family illness. During his year and a half in the district, Williams was the target of unsubstantiated claims of bringing “critical race theory” into classrooms. Engle said she plans to focus on promoting core values such as respect, responsibility and the basics of education.
When Cunningham called her in the summer to ask if she’d take over in the interim for the departing Williams, Engle took less than a day to reply. As interim superintendent, she said, “I just wanted to come in and do the best that I could. I do think I had an advantage, having worked in the district for so long and being in so many different locations and campuses; so it wasn’t hard to connect with people.”
The district's board, which voted unanimously to approve Engle as superintendent, had opted against using an outside search firm to seek candidates for the post..
