Can Bentley's 740bhp swansong to the W12 engine justify its £1.65m asking price? We find out by driving the new Batur –
The increase from 650bhp to 740bhp, and from 664lb ft to 738lb ft, is thanks to revised turbochargers on the compressor side, a revised air intake, new intercoolers and a new ECU calibration. Sure enough, catch the Batur in the meat of its power band and the shove in the back is almost comically strong, making small work of any overtaking opportunity.
This is all very nice, but maybe not ’ten times the price of a GT Speed’ nice, but what those who have bought the Batur are really buying into is exclusivity and the idea of personalisation. There is literally no limit to the different colours, trim materials and textures, engraving, embossing, gilding and so forth that can be indulged in.
