The Netflix adaptation of Assassin's Creed has officially lost its showrunner. The live-action series is set to bring the battle between the Templar and the Brotherhood and the world of Assassin's Creed to the small screen as a potential reboot for the franchise after the failure of the Assassin's Creed movie.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY While Assassin's Creed has always had an interesting premise, it has struggled with adaptations. Netflix's Assassin's Creed must avoid the movie's mistakes by simplifying the story and making the time jumps more palatable, which will admittedly be a difficult prospect in a franchise that entirely revolves around a jumping timeline. Unfortunately, Assassin's Creed is moving away from its showrunner, Jeb Stuart , who has left the project.
"I think it was a little bit of a move of executives from LA to London, and it allowed the London group who, unfortunately, had to inherit my vision of what it was instead of getting to develop their own vision. So I think that's fair. I know it's going to be great whenever it comes out. I think the Ubisoft guys are fantastic. I think it's a terrific franchise. It was just a good, mutual time to move on for both sides.
The disappointing reality is that video games allow dozens of hours of storytelling that each movie needs to trim down into a bite-sized chunk. Where The Last of Us will benefit from being a TV series with space for hours of plot and character development, the original Assassin's Creed movie condensed a 15-hour game into two short hours.
Everything We Know About Netflix's Assassin's Creed The Assassin's Creed show, which was announced in October 2020, won't be as short as a movie, which will be a serious boon for the production. So far no casting information has been released, as it seems even the producers of the project seem to be in turnover.
