A date set aside for George Washington's birthday (or Lincoln's birthday) was not important enough for them to mention. Biden even celebrated the Kansas City Chiefs winning the Super Bowl, but not Lincoln or Washington, cwtremo writes.
Presidents Day is observed each year on the third Monday in February to honor our country's presidents. This year's date was yesterday, Feb. 20. It is a national holiday recognized as Washington's Birthday at the federal government level. It was originally a date set aside to honor George Washington's birthday but was later changed to include Abraham Lincoln's birthday, which is on Feb. 12.
Given the significance of honoring two of our country's greatest presidents, it was odd that neither President Joe Biden nor Vice President Kamala Harris even acknowledged Presidents Day . There didn't appear to be any statements or videos on their social media accounts or releases by the White House recognizing the holiday. Both Biden and Harris frequently release statements to observe holidays — for example, to commemorate Black History Month.
Incidentally, on a day meant to honor our country's greatest leaders, Biden and Harris were too busy focusing on the war in Ukraine — a tragic and immoral act of aggression by Russia, but also one that has nothing to do with the U.S. Biden spent Presidents Day in Ukraine; his statements and social media posts were about the visit, and he didn't even find a spare moment to pay tribute to Washington or Lincoln.
"Actions speak louder than words," as the old adage goes. Actions such as these reinforce the perception that Biden and Harris lack patriotism or a genuine appreciation of our country's history. Biden and Harris only appear patriotic and celebrate our history when they want it to benefit them politically. It's embarrassing and disgraceful that the president and vice president couldn't even recognize Presidents Day.
