Bruce Brown's performance in Denver's NBA title fun made himself a lot of money. It turns out it will be the Pacers who will be paying him.
In the playoffs, though, he was even more critical as an important bench piece who could play and defend multiple positions. He didn't start at all in the playoffs, but he averaged 12.0 points per game while shooting 51.1% from the floor. He averaged double figures in all four playoff series, including 12.8 points per game in the Western Conference Semifinals against the Suns and 11.4 per game against the Heat in the NBA Finals.
The Pacers didn't seem like the most obvious fit for Brown because they have some depth at guard and considerably less at forward, but he proved throughout this season and the playoffs that he can play point guard, shooting guard and small forward and he can clearly operate as a wing and defend such players. He's an adequate 3-point shooter, knocking down 35.8% of his attempts in his career and he should add toughness and defensive ability to a team that could use more of both.
He obviously won't be the Pacers' starting point guard, and it's not obvious at this point where he will slot in among the Pacers' wings with Bennedict Mathurin, Buddy Hield, Andrew Nembhard, Aaron Nesmith and Jordan Nwora all under contract, but he's proven in the past he can always find a way to get on the floor.
The Pacers still have approximately $12 million in cap room and can continue to pursue other moves. Several other players who the Pacers appeared to be targeting at the power forward position resigned with their current teams. Harrison Barnes resigned with the Kings, Jerami Grant with the Trail Blazers and Kyle Kuzma with the Wizards.
