Walkers say they hear the baffling sound echoing across the marshes
If you visit RSPB Leighton Moss in the spring months, you may experience 'peak booming season'. Booming season, what's that? we hear some of you ask.
The nature reserve is a natural habitat for bitterns and many other species of wildlife and is located on the shores of Morecambe Bay, and on the cusp of Arnside and Silverdale Area of Natural Beauty, straddling the Lancashire-Cumbria border. "It is great to see people from urban areas come and visit us and nature reserves are great for mental and physical wellbeing. Even in the rain, its is beautiful and tranquil place to be and even if I spend a long time at my desk, I like to take five minutes to come out and walk around."

Control of SARS-CoV-2 infection by MT1-MMP-mediated shedding of ACE2 - Nature CommunicationsThe role of soluble angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (sACE2) in SARS-CoV-2 infection is not well understood. Here, authors show that membrane type 1 matrix metalloproteinase (MT1-MMP) releases sACE2 to promote SARS-CoV-2 cell entry in vitro and in vivo, and the upregulation of MT1-MMP may contribute to increased susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection in ageing.
