While defence ministers discussed sending fighter jets to Ukraine, there was no breakthrough at the meeting in Brussels
allies meeting in Brussels on Tuesday pledged to stick by Kyiv “for as long as it takes” as they discussed how to ramp up arms and ammunition to the embattled country amid mounting signs that Russia is already mounting a new offensive.
However, both underlined that Ukraine’s defence needs, including ammunition supplies, are running alarmingly low, while many Western stockpiles also risk being depleted. Although Russia has lost huge swathes of territory in recent months, Ukraine is thought to be burning through 5,000 artillery shells every day in the face of Russia’s renewed attacks in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.
