CJ Abrams hit a solo home run to break a seventh-inning tie and lift the Washington Nationals to a 3-2 victory against the visiting New York Mets in the resumption of a suspended game Sunday afternoon.
It was the third homer of the season for Abrams, who put Washington ahead earlier with a run-scoring single in the fourth inning.
The teams were slated to play the regularly scheduled game later Sunday in what became a split-admission doubleheader after Saturday's suspension.Hunter Harvey was the winning pitcher. Kyle Finnegan posted his eighth save despite giving up two singles in the ninth. Dominic Leone took the loss. Michael Perez went 4-for-4 for New York. He singled with two outs in the ninth before Brandon Nimmo's single, but Finnegan escaped when McNeil flew out to center. The Mets had runners at second and third base with one out when play ended. The teams waited through a delay of nearly four hours before there was an announcement that the game would be suspended.
For the second game in a row, the scoring began with an RBI single from Washington's Joey Meneses in the first inning. Lane Thomas, who singled to lead off the frame and moved to second base on Luis Garcia's sacrifice bunt, scored the run. The Nationals went on to load the bases on a Keibert Ruiz double and Alex Call walk. The threat ended when Dominic Smith grounded into a double play. It's a four-game series between the teams. The Mets won 3-2 on Friday night and the finale is scheduled for Monday.
