Black people aged 15 to 24 years old saw an 86% increase in overdose deaths, the largest increase of any age and race group.

In total, 91,799 drug overdose deaths occurred in the United States in 2020, representing a 30% increase from the previous year.
The Vital Signs report analyzes drug overdose data from 25 states, including Ohio, and the District of Columbia. “Just because there is an availability of services, it doesn’t mean those services are accessible,” Mbabazi Kariisa, Health Scientist, CDC’s Division of Overdose Prevention, said during the press conference.
