NASA launches its long-awaited Artemis space mission with Space Launch System, the most powerful rocket ever built
About 100,000 people were estimated to be on the coast to watch the launch, with the rocket lighting up the night sky.
The 32-storey tall Space Launch System blasted off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 0647 GMT on Wednesday. Fixed to its top was the uncrewed Orion spaceship that will later separate and complete an orbit-and-a-half of Earth's nearest neighbour for a test run.
