A lawsuit by a Union County Police Department sergeant portrays the agency as being led by a chief who uses the “old boys club” to protect some officers and punish others.
Those in the club get preferential treatment, and when they violate a departmental policy, or worse, break the law or find themselves embroiled in off-duty mishaps, the chief protects them or minimizes their involvement, the lawsuit claims. Membership is acquired by being white, being personally liked by or pledging loyalty to the chief,Those outside the club, though, suffer the chief’s wrath when they make minor, everyday work mishaps.
