The suspect faces charges of murder and desecration of human remains in the death of 26-year-old Sonia Gonzales, according to Monmouth County officials
inside a car and arrested the accused killer at the scene in Monmouth County, officials said Friday.
Authorities said Jordan J. Vilcatoma-Correjo, 28, faces charges of murder and desecration of human remains in the death of 26-year-old Sonia Gonzales, also of Edison. Police in Atlantic Highlands found Gonzales’s body inside a Honda Accord near Asbury Avenue, between Navesink and Grand avenues, after responding to a call around 7:45 a.m. last Friday, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said. Officers also found Vilcatoma-Correjo at the scene and he was taken into custody.
“We hope that the first-degree murder charge announced today offers some small measure of solace to Sonia Gonzales’s loved ones,” Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey said in a statement. “This has been a rapidly unfolding investigation involving many moving parts that nonetheless swiftly produced stellar results, due in large measure to the collaboration with our investigative partners, for whom we are sincerely grateful.
More information on a possible motive or cause of death in the slaying was not immediately available. Vilcatoma-Correjo was being held in the Monmouth County jail ahead of a court hearing, according to officials.
