Platkin said the troopers arrived in unmarked cars to investigate an earlier break-in. The suspect, Jocquise R. Timmons, allegedly opened fire on the vehicles, hitting one trooper in the leg. The trooper was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson where he underwent surgery and is expected to survive. Timmons is being charged with two counts of attempted murder, four counts of aggravated assault and two counts of unlawful weapons possession, Platkin said.
Ribeiro, 50, was born and raised in Paterson and lives in the city. He joined the department in 1996, and since then has done just about everything, from bicycle patrol to heading the Major Crimes Unit, rising to the rank of captain. He is Paterson’s first Latino police chief. after a 14-year-old boy was stabbed to death and another youth wounded in a knife attack. Police arrested a juvenile and charged him with the attack.Ribeiro, in his remarks, said he wanted to dispense with the name “Englebert” and prefers to be known as “Bert.” He began by thanking God , then his parents, his fiancé and his family.
