The U.S. Secret Service blocked a Muslim mayor from attending Pres. Biden's evening Eid al-Fitr celebration. From the mayor's perspective, the experience 'reeks of Islamophobia.'
Mayor Mohamed Khairullah said he was about half an hour away from joining fellow Muslim leaders on Monday to mark a belated end of the"At this point, we still did not receive any explanation," he toldon Tuesday morning. "All that happened is I received that call as I was entering D.C.
"Let me just first say this is under the purview of the Secret Service," she said. "I can say this: I was in the room. The president was very proud to welcome nearly 400 Muslim Americans to the White House to celebrate Eid yesterday." A spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service said in a statement to reporters late Monday the agency regrets the inconvenience but couldn't comment further.
