Musk had been looking for a CEO to take over even before he posted a Twitter poll in which users voted for him to step down, according to CNBC. The billionaire has not offered clues as to whom he is considering but is seeking someone who can keep the financially struggling social network afloat after his $44 billion purchase of the company."The question is not finding a CEO; the question is finding a CEO who can keep Twitter alive," Musk tweeted on Sunday.
Musk posted a poll on Sunday asking if users wanted him to leave his role as CEO of Twitter and said he would abide by the results. Fifty-seven percent of users voted"Yes." Musk has not commented on if he intends to follow through, although he has expressed skepticism about the results and the possibility it was manipulated by bots.
Musk said in October that his role as Twitter CEO would be temporary, but he also emphasized on Sunday that"there is no successor" yet.Several high-profile people have volunteered to run the company for him, including venture capitalist David Sacks, former tech journalist Jason Calacanis, and podcaster Lex Fridman. It's also possible that Musk could call on former Twitter executives such as Biz Stone or Jack Dorsey to return to manage the company.
Musk made news on Monday when his allies released the seventh edition of internal company documents, dubbed the"Twitter Files," which detailed the company's interactions with the FBI around the 2020 election.
