Breaking news from Nottingham Crown Court
The total tally on life sentences now stands at 237 years after four more defendants were sentenced today for their involvement in fatal a stabbing in The Meadows. The highest minimum terms handed down this morning were to two men involved in the murder Michael Anton O'Connor.
Taylor, who was not in court to hear his sentence of a mandatory life term for the murder of Mr O'Connor, recruited Joseph Boscombe, 41, of Rostherne Avenue, Manchester; Michael Mingoes, 20, of Powell Street, Manchester; and Joshua Agboola, 28, of Leven Grove, Darwen, Blackburn, who is yet to be sentenced, to be part of the hit team brought in as factions boiled over in a turf war over Class A drugs in The Meadows.
Mr Justice Turner told him: "You were, quite literally, a hired gun". Alongside him in the dock was Carla McGuire, 53, of Wilford Crescent West, The Meadows, who received a minimum 20-year term - the lowest terms handed down to eight of the nine convicted and sentenced over the horrendous murder. McGuire's barrister stressed there was "no plan to kill" - and even if there was a plan, she had no involvement in it, and she had no connection to the men from Manchester. Usherwood entered court smiling this morning and greeting McGuire in the dock before they were sentenced.Mr Justice Turner said she is a cousin to Michael McGuire, the now former leader of the "MI Line" - which was wiped out by the "rival dealer".
