Mundelein village trustees have endorsed a plan proposed by the Wirtz family, owners of the Chicago Blackhawks, to annex more than 700 acres of land in Mundelein and turn it into a residential, commercial, and industrial development called Ivanhoe Village.
Located just over a mile northwest of the intersection of routes 60 and 83, the project continues a recent trend of some major developments in central Lake County, followingfor Medline in Grayslake near Peterson Road over the summer. Just down Route 60 from the Wirtz’s land, a 187-unit single-family home development called Sheldon Woods is going up.
In a statement, Rocky Wirtz said the family intends to, “maintain and improve upon the agricultural, historical, and natural features” of the land. “We are committed to providing long-term stewardship that will allow future generations to enjoy the amenities and natural beauty of this ground-breaking residential community,” Wirtz said.“By acreage, it will also be one of the largest developments in Lake County,” Guenther said in a press release.
Guenther said that “preliminary estimates” project that more than 3,000 ongoing jobs and more than 10,000 one-year construction jobs will be created as a result of the development, and that housing options would include “detached and attached single-family homes, multi-unit buildings, cottages, and accessory dwelling units, which will attract a diverse ranges of occupants.”
Lentz said in a press release that he believes the Wirtz family and partner entities on the project, Ivanhoe Village Land Company and Ivanhoe Farms, will be able to construct a “timeless” development that will draw people to “explore, take a walk, meet neighbors and enjoy a sense of community.”“From the initial conversation, the entire Mundelein team was enraptured by the Wirtz family’s vision for this property,” Lentz said.
