Mum-of-three who fell 40ft off Appleby Bridge quarry warns 'death trap' tragedy could have been prevented
A mum-of-three who was told she would never walk again after diving 40 feet off Appley Bridge quarry has said the only solution is to "drain and fill up" the site which has cost three lives in 23 years.
The Southport youngster lost his life after getting into difficulty at Dweber Delph, in Appley Bridge, last weekend. The only solution, Natalie says, is to drain the quarry and fill it up. At the time, Natalie's mum Sue, now 55, had owned stables close to Appley Bridge quarry and had seen an air ambulance head over the farm. She says she had no idea it was her daughter emergency services were rushing to attend.
Natalie spent three months recovering in Preston Hospital's trauma unit where she had surgery to fit metal plating in her ankle as well as an artificial knee joint. While doctors managed to save her legs from amputation, she had to be transferred into rehabilitation to learn to walk again.
