Most voters are not extremist or hardcore political activists.

PennLive Letters to the Editor

After reading PA election results this morning, they should not be a big surprise to anyone except maybe the losing candidates. They underestimated us middle Americans. This is where most of us live within each major political party. We don’t teeter too far left or right. We are not extremist or hardcore political activists. We like balance, order, and can easily be swayed giving the right motivation. This was most evident when Mr. Trump won the Presidential election.

The motivation for this election came in the form of a Supreme Court ruling this past summer. Every pole that was published showed the majority of Americans supported the right to have a choice regarding abortion. We don’t necessarily support abortion but we do support the right for women to have that choice.

I’m a lifelong Republican and before last summer was set to vote with my party due to the current economic conditions as well as the handling of the ridiculous COVID measures at the state level. That changed when Roe vs. Wade was overturned. The door opened for me to vote against my party. That door came off its hinges after months of hearing the hardline stance against abortion and the right to choose from the Republican candidates.
