Most Republicans agree with Trump’s ‘go back’ to your country tweets, polls show

A USA Today/Ipsos poll finds most Americans overall say the tweets were “offensive,” but individual opinions follow party lines.

Not everyone is condemning the president for that series of tweets telling four Democratic Congresswomen of color to “go back” to their countries.

And while the overall majority of Americans agreed that telling minority Americans to “go back to where they came from” is racist, and 59% said the posts were un-American — three of the four Congresswomen mentioned were born in the U.S., and all four are U.S. citizens elected to represent the country — there’s a wide, 40-percentage point difference between how Democrats and Republicans feel about this.
