Real Salt Lake was trying to open with back-to-back victories for only the fourth time in franchise history. Real Salt Lake beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 in its opener, extending its record streak to 14 straight openers without a loss. RSL has just two wins in its last 17 visits to Seattle. The Sounders routed the Colorado Rapids in their first game 4-0. It marked the fifth time Seattle has won an opener by three or more goals, matching a record set by the Columbus Crew.Frei finished with two saves for the Sounders.
